Top 10 Books From 2018
Believe it or not, I have not always been an avid reader or rather listener of books. I have a hard time focusing long enough to read through an entire book. In 2017 I started seeing a ton of ads for audible and when a book I was struggling to read came up in one of the ads (crazy how that happens), I decided to give it a try. LIFE. CHANGING. It turns out that I love listening to books. Every morning while I clean my house I listen to books. I have learned so much. I love my mornings now. My brain is happy. Now I make goals every year for how many books I’d like to listen to. This year (2019) my goal is to listen to 2 books a month. If the year continues to go as it has started It will be more like 4 books a month. Now to the list.
Drumroll Please...
1. Braving The Wilderness by Brené Brown —This book changed my ideas about fitting in. It helped me to be more steadfast in where I stand on different issues and not letting other people’s boxes confine me.
2. Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis — Rachel makes you rethink all of your excuses and calls you to stop the bad self talk and take charge of your life. It’s a great book for anyone needing a kick in the pants and real talk.
3. The Code of The Extraordinary Mind by Vishen Lakhiani — Honestly, this is one of the most incredible books I have ever listened to. It made me question everything. I questioned my beliefs and why I believed the way I did. If you want to be stretched, if you want to grow, if you want to understand everyone around you better than you need to listen to this book. It’s amazing!
4. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo — I think by now everyone has either watched or at least heard of Marie’s new show on Netflix. It’s great, but the book is even better. This book helped me understand the true concept of tidying and how I have been thinking of it all wrong all these years. Since listening to this book I have sent 3 bags of clothes and a full box of dishes to charity.
5. Boss Bitch by Nicole Lapin — I have been wanting to start my own business for a few years now. Nicole helped me to rethink how I carried myself at work. She helped me to learn to carry myself differently and not to be afraid to ask for what I wanted.
6. High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard — This book made me rethink my habits. It’s amazing how simple habits can make such a difference. If you want better performance in life and in work, listen to or read this book.
7. Rejection Proof by Jia Jiang — Are you afraid of rejection? I was. In some ways I still am. But Jia Jiang helped me to take rejection lightly. Rejection sucks, but when you learn not to take it so personally, it’s amazing what people will say yes to.
8. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey — Just like High Performance Habits, this book helps you change your habits for success in all areas of your life.
9. Start With Why by Simon Sinek — Want to start your own successful business? Want to understand why some businesses succeed and some fail? Start With Why is a must-read for entrepreneurs. This book made me understand my company better and it made me think seriously about my “why.” If you ever want to start your own business, listen to this book.
10. Happiness: A Memoir by Heather Harpham — This book is not in the self-help genre, but a great book nonetheless. I cried while listening to this book and felt all the pain. Heather makes you feel like you're there in the hospital room with her. She makes you think about intentions, about fearful self-talk and tough decisions. This is a book you need to listen to.
